Renovation work
The redevelopment of the Museum Park is under way. The aim of this major project, which was approved by the General Council on 30 August 2022, is to provide a redesigned space for the city's residents and visitors to its three flagship cultural institutions: the Musée d'histoire (MH), the Musée international d'horlogerie (MIH) and the Musée des beaux-arts (MBA).
In addition to repairing the waterproofing on the roof of the MIH, the redevelopment project includes the creation of a museum café, located on the ground floor of the MH, with a terrace opening onto the park, the installation of play areas for families, and an underground link connecting the MIH to the MH (and to the newly-created café). The MIH entrance hall will also be refurbished to make it more comfortable for users.
The works will result in the temporary closure of the following museums:
- The Musée d'histoire will close on 28 April 2025, with a planned reopening in summer 2026.
- The Musée international d'horlogerie will be closed from 3 November 2025 and will reopen in spring 2026.
Despite the scale of the works, it will still be possible to cross the Park and access the museums (with the exception of the above-mentioned periods) at any time by means of specially designed routes depending on the stages of the work.
The town of La Chaux-de-Fonds is delighted to be able to offer, at the end of the works, a revamped and welcoming space to meet the needs of its visitors.
