"A museum is a not-for-profit, permanent institution in the service of society that researches, collects, conserves, interprets and exhibits tangible and intangible heritage. Open to the public, accessible and inclusive, museums foster diversity and sustainability. They operate and communicate ethically, professionally and with the participation of communities, offering varied experiences for education, enjoyment, reflection and knowledge sharing." ICOM

Under the direction of Régis Huguenin, curator, and Nathalie Marielloni, deputy curator, the MIH team is made up of around fifty permanent and temporary staff working in the museum's various areas: reception, mediation, administration, conservation and restoration, documentation and archives, and technical and scenographic aspects.

The MIH regularly takes on trainees and apprentices in each of these areas.

Job vacancies are published on the website Ville de La Chaux-de-Fonds

The MIH deals with the themes of time and its measurement through man-made works of art. The notion of time is born from memories, old or recent, and their classification. The watch, by repeating identical and regular steps, is used to measure time and to determine instants. The permanent collection of the MIH is one of the most significant collections in the world. Thanks to its rich collection, its work to promote and develop the watchmaking heritage, and its location in the watchmaking region, the museum arouses the constant interest of Swiss and foreign tourists.

In the permanent exhibition, the objects are integrated into chronological and thematic groups. Information is provided by texts and didactic models. In this way, the visitor not only has access to unusual objects, but also has the opportunity to learn about their history, function and creation, as well as their relationship to society. The temporary exhibitions allow for the deepening of knowledge. Each exhibition contains a nucleus that makes the permanent exhibition evolve on a regular basis.

As a reference museum in the field of watchmaking, the MIH is in constant contact with other national and international museums. Thus it is regularly present through the loan of pieces to various museums.
